The Sword of the Ninjas
The ninjato, or shinobigatana, is a sword that evokes the mysteries of the shinobi, spies and assassins of feudal Japanese times. Unlike traditional katanas, our ninjato feature a straight blade and a shorter handle, facilitating quick draws and stealthy movements, essential for the art of invisibility practiced by ninjas.
The Difference Between Ninjato and Katana
The main distinction between the ninjato and the katana lies in the design of the blade and the philosophy of use. The ninjato is characterized by its straight blade and shorter tsuka (handle), optimized for rapid attacks and discreet handling, in line with the secret techniques of the shinobi. In contrast, the katana is known for its curved blade and long tsuka, which allows for smoother and more powerful cutting movements. Unlike samurai who viewed their katana as an extension of their soul and a spiritual symbol, ninjas saw their ninjato simply as a necessary tool, used to carry out their missions.
